Town Centre funding worth £9 million to Argyll and Bute

Argyll and Bute Council continues its commitment to creating vibrant places to help stimulate local economic recovery.   

The council is delivering £1.686 million of Town Centre funding to 28 projects across Argyll and Bute, with an overall value of £9 million to the local economy.

Projects range from improved town centre infrastructure, grants for charitable organisations and help for business owners to improve their shopfronts.

The Scottish Government Town Centre Fund aims to help local authorities stimulate and support place-based economic investment that encourages town centres to flourish.

The Town Centre Fund is providing a welcome boost to many projects helping to support our construction industry and local retailers.

Creating vibrant attractive places is essential to help long-term economic recovery. As we continue to create opportunities for our communities, we are also building for the future, attracting more people to live, work and visit the area. ”

Funding has been granted to the following projects with a completion date of September 2021:

Rothesay - Total funding £205,500

  • Replacement pontoons, Rothesay harbour
  • Bute public art sign
  • Montague Street Gardens, all weather canopy

Dunoon - Total funding £255,500

  • Illumination of Argyll Gardens and Castle Gardens
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Helensburgh  - Total funding £125,000

  • Helensburgh Pier new benches, new Clyde Sea Lochs Trial plinth
  • Hermitage Park refurbished glasshouse, new potting shed
  • Helensburgh Community Hall grant
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Lomond Settlements – Total funding £125,000

  • Howie Park, Rosneath – new play equipment and additional parking
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Tobermory - Total funding £198,000

  • Harbour wall enhancements
  • Harbour floodgate
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Oban – Total funding £197,000

  • Welcome signs
  • McCaigs Tower public realm
  • Motorhome mitigation measures
  • Rockfield Centre grant
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Campbeltown – Total funding £60,500

  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme

Lochgilphead – Total funding £233,500

  • Front Green works
  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme (Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig)

Bowmore – Total funding £118,500

  • Shopfront Improvement Scheme
