We're now into the second week of our A to Z of council services.
F is for Family Milestones
Our registrars work hard to deliver a personal service. Responsible for registering births, deaths and marriages, their job can be emotional.
“I really love my job,” said Registrar Shona Brechin, “No two days are ever the same and I like the fact that we get to help people at both the happiest and most difficult times of their life.”
Since 2002 people have been able to get married anywhere.
Shona said: “We’re really lucky in Argyll and Bute because of the huge variety of stunning locations on offer. It also gives us the opportunity to see the length and breadth of Argyll and Bute whilst we work.”
But being a registrar isn’t a 9 to 5 job.
“We conduct around 600 marriages a year, Shona said. “We’ve had ceremonies at all times, even one at Hogmanay, but we’re a close team and help each other. We’re like a family. We always do our best to accommodate couples, after all it’s their day, so they should do it their way.
“I really like that a lot of people keep in touch with us after their wedding ceremony too, sending us photos from their honeymoon, Christmas cards, even their new baby photos which is lovely. I can’t imagine working anywhere else”
