This page and application is for anyone whose child is not in the DOB range for P1 entry in August (01/03/22 to 28/02/23) but wishes to request early entry.
Application Process
You can apply from 17th November onwards. Here are the key stages of the process:
- Review the information in the Early Entry to P1 information leaflet, at the bottom of this page, to ensure the decision is right for your child.
- Complete the Early Entry application form online. The P1 registration form should not be completed.
- You will receive confirmation that we have received your request within 7 working days.
- Parents/carers will be informed of the outcome of the Early Entry application as soon as possible.
Our Approach
In line with the principles of Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), we recognise that every child develops at their own pace and has individual strengths, needs and circumstances. Decisions about an early entry to Primary 1 are therefore made on a case-by-case basis, taking account of the unique needs and context of each child.
There is no single factor that determines whether a request will be supported. Instead, we consider a range of information, including the child’s wellbeing, development, learning needs, views of parents and carers, and professional advice from those who know the child best.
Our aim is to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the child, supporting them to achieve the right balance of nurture, learning and challenge at the right time. By taking an individualised approach, we seek to promote positive outcomes and ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive.
