The civic amenity site at Westlands, Rothesay will re-open on Monday 1 June.
Please only go if your journey is absolutely essential – if your waste will not fit in your bins or you can no longer store it safely at home.
How the site will work
When we re-open the site there will be a number of changes to normal operations. There are some limits on how you can use the site and the things you can take there.
This is only short-term. The site will go back to normal operations, with all the usual recycling options, as soon as it is safe to do so – we hope no later than a fortnight after opening.
Monday – Friday 9am to 3pm
Saturday – Sunday 11am – 3pm
Last entry to the site is 15 minutes before closing time. This gives time for the vehicles queuing to have the contents unloaded. If you do plan to visit the centre, give yourself plenty of time.
What you can take
Domestic/general waste and garden waste.
For the initial period there will be no containers available for recycling, e.g paper, cardboard, plastics.
What you can’t take
- Electrical items/white goods
- Large items of furniture
- Hazardous materials like asbestos, gas cylinders and tyres.
Working with our partners at Renewi, who operate the site on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council, we have put in place a traffic management plan to safely manage access to the site and ensure social distancing.
When you approach you will see the traffic management laid out – please follow the signage and the directions of staff on site.
Cars will be allowed into the civic amenity area on a one-in; one-out basis.
Please be patient and stay within your car until you are directed to an unloading point.
If the site becomes too busy it will need to close again.
Vehicles allowed on site
For an initial period only cars will be allowed on site. This will allow more customers to use the site safely.
We will not be able to accept trailers, vans or commercial traffic on site at this time.
The one-in; one-out system will keep both staff and customers safe by ensuring social distancing.
This will mean that you will have to wait longer and we would ask customers to please be patient.
Disposing of your waste within the site
In order to keep customers and site staff safe, staff will not help you dispose of your waste. Please only bring what you can safely lift from your vehicle into the containers.
Reasons for limits on use of the site
We expect the sites to be busy in the first few days and we want to give people as much chance as possible to dispose of the most common waste that has been building up over the past weeks – domestic and garden.
The site will use the containers and bays normally reserved for recycling etc. to provide additional capacity for domestic and garden waste.
We also want people to be in and out quickly, so providing a simplified system with only two options, cuts down on the time it takes customers to dispose of their waste. This also minimises movement around the site, which helps to ensure social distancing.
Treating each other with respect
All restrictions on the use of the site are designed to keep customers and staff safe, meaning the site can continue to operate. Please treat site staff with respect and understand that they are performing a difficult job in order to provide you with more waste disposal options.
If you have COVID 19 symptoms
Please do not go to the site if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID-19 or is ‘shielding’ because of underlying health conditions.
