Walking and cycling projects

In recent years, the Council has allocated money for "Cycling, walking and safer streets". We use this money, along with external funding for sources such as HIE and Sustrans, for cycling and walking projects across the area. We are aiming to develop links within communities to encourage active travel on everyday journeys. We are also trying to upgrade existing routes and facilities where improvements would make them more accessible, and increase the opportunities to have well used and coherent walking and cycling networks.

We've worked closely with landowners, communities, and funding bodies to achieve some well used and high quality routes and facilities across our area.

In May 2012, the Scottish Executive released a report called Active travel, Active Scotland - our journey to a sustainable future. In response to this report, we have put together an action plan on how we plan to address the issues in this report, and you can read our action plan here.
