“Blue-green algae warning in Loch Awe

Warning notices have been displayed around Loch Awe to warn people about the discovery of blue-green algae. This can be harmful, in some cases causing an upset stomach or skin problems, so people should protect themselves and their animals from coming into contact with it.

Members of the public are advised to not swim in the loch or use it for activities like canoeing or water skiing until the problem subsides. This advice will remain in place for the next week until sampling confirms that algae levels have fallen. At that time, the council will remove the warning notices and inform the wider public through its website and local media.
