Associate Director for Public Health Dr Nicola Schinaia said “Regular testing for the COVID-19 virus plays a vital part in keeping our families and communities safe by breaking chains of transmission”.
Dr Schinaia continued, “Lateral Flow tests are free and available at some pharmacies, community testing sites, online at NHS Inform or by calling 119 and should be used when you do not have symptoms. If you develop symptoms, you should isolate and get a free PCR test.”

The COVID-19 virus is airborne – ensuring good ventilation in indoor spaces and wearing masks can help to protect others.

Lateral Flow Device Tests (LFD) should only be used for people who do not have symptoms (asymptomatic).

People with symptoms should not use LFD tests but should isolate and get a PCR test as this is the correct test in that circumstance.
