Did you know that over 600 marriages are conducted by Argyll and Bute Council’s registrars each year? That’s almost two weddings every day.

In 2002 the law changed in Scotland, allowing people to get married anywhere. Since then, the registrars in Argyll and Bute have seen an influx of people tying the knot in a variety of beautiful locations across the area, including one couple who held their special ceremony on Ben More on the Isle of Mull – the island’s highest mountain.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Corporate Services, Councillor Rory Colville said: “It’s so great to see that people are choosing to get married in Argyll and Bute. We have some stunning scenery and ceremonies have been held in a huge range of locations, from beaches and castles to the more intimate surroundings of the couple’s home or garden.

“Being a registrar isn’t a 9-5 job and they will do whatever it takes to try and make a couple’s wedding the special day they dreamed of. They can also help with other important family events such as naming ceremonies and re-dedication of marriage vows.”
