Raised levels of naturally occurring E.coli bacteria have been found at Kilfinichen Bay Cockles during routine monitoring.

A potential risk of raised levels of E.coli has also been identified at Kerrera East Cockels, Loch Craignish Cockles, and Loch na Cille Cockles.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Environmental Health team regularly monitor shellfish areas to ensure quality remains high.

It is a sensible precaution to avoid eating shellfish such as cockles, mussels, oysters or razor fish from these areas while the levels are raised.
