Four budding artists from primary schools across Argyll and Bute have been awarded in a national drawing competition.

Rachel Carre from Lochnell Primary School was highly commended for her entry in the John Byrne National Drawing Competition, while her fellow primary seven pupil, Katie Lowe, was selected as a runner up.

Katie Gillon, a primary five pupil at Rosneath Primary School, was also selected as a runner-up, as was Aatiquah Shah of primary seven at John Logie Baird Primary.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly said: “A massive well done to everyone who took part in the competition, particularly those who were awarded.

“Art enables our young people to be creative, to express themselves, and encourages them to focus.

"To be awarded in a competition of this level is fantastic. They should be very, very proud of themselves.”

The competition is run in partnership with Education Scotland and is open to all pupils from primary four through to third year.

The award ceremony took place at Paisley Museum and Art Gallery, where a special exhibition of competition entries are on display until Sunday 29 April.
