Events will take place in Dunoon next month (October) to commemorate the mobilisation of troops from Cowal during World War One.
The first is an exhibition in the Burgh Hall from 2nd to 8th October, which will feature material about the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders - the 8th battalion mobilised from Dunoon – as well as information about the Argyll and Bute Mountain Batteries, training camps, auxiliary hospitals, war memorials, local heroes, Princess Louise and the Campbell family, provision for veterans and much more.
The second event is a two-day conference on 6th and 7th October in the Burgh Hall. This event will include talks from renowned public speakers and will give members of the public the unique opportunity to listen to experts in the field of WW1 history as they share their knowledge.
Following the conference there will be a commemoration parade at Dunoon War Memorial on Sunday 8th October.
