A simple new system is on the way for residents in Helensburgh and Lomond to order new liners for their food waste bins.
At the moment replacement rolls of liners are delivered to homes every six months, can be ordered by contacting the Council, or picked up from the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.
From the end of this month, people will be asked to tie an unused liner to the handle of their outside caddy as a sign to Council workers that they need more liners.
A new supply will then be left inside the bin.
Policy Lead for Roads and Amenity Services, Councillor Roddy McCuish, said: “This is a very simple system that means residents get their replacement bin liners quickly, and saves the Council time and resources as the new supplies are dropped off when we already have staff and a vehicle in the area, as we are already collecting the food waste.
“Residents won’t have to face to wait for the new liners to be sent out to them, and it saves us resources by not having to organise delivery, which benefits everyone in Argyll and Bute.
“Other councils use this method and it works well. As well as saving resources it is every efficient and residents get their replacement bags the same day.
“New calendars with information on collection days – which are not changing, we are just reminding you of your collection days for the year ahead – are being sent out now and should be with residents by the end of October.
“Thank you to everyone in Argyll and Bute for recycling more and wasting less. We are seeing food waste in Helensburgh and Lomond increasing, which means less waste sent to landfill.
“The more we can work together to recycle, the more money we can save. We can then protect the services we know are important to people, such as investing in regeneration projects, educating our young people and improving our road network.”
Residents are asked to untie and reuse the liner from their caddy once the new supply has been dropped off.
Your food waste bin is emptied every week. Please fill the liner in your inside caddy before tying up and depositing in your outdoor bin.
All food waste can be recycled:
Meat and fish, including bones
Fruit and vegetables
Bread, cakes and pastries
Beans pasta and rice
Teabags and coffee grounds
Used kitchen towel and paper with food residue.
The new calendars in Helensburgh and Lomond are for both recycling and general waste. General waste is collected every three weeks (green bin) and your blue bin is emptied every two weeks.
If you have not received your new calendar by the end of October, please contact our contact centre via the website at www.argyll-bute.gov.uk or call us on 01546 605514.
