Tobermory’s Christmas festivities were boosted by over £1,500 of funding from the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee, to support the community organised event.

Members of the committee agreed to provide £1525.40 of funding to the organisers of the Tobermory Christmas Lights, which represents half the cost of the lights and staging the event which has lit up the town.

Councillor Elaine Robertson, Chair of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee, said:

“It is really pleasing that the Area Committee was able to support the efforts made by the Tobermory community each year.

”This is an important time of the year and means a great deal to everyone. The lights bring added festive cheer and the opportunity for local businesses to showcase their goods.

At the meeting the members also agreed that the Oban’s Christmas light switch on event on Saturday 18th November 2017 had been a huge success.

Councillor Robertson added:

“The Oban event drew a large crowd of people to the town. Everyone I spoke to said they really enjoyed the event and the weather was kind.

“We are grateful to the council’s street lighting team who did a sterling job to erect the lamps and features in really cold weather, as well as dressing the trees donated by BID4Oban.”
