Argyll and Bute Sports Awards winners are announced

The Argyll and Bute Sports Awards took place on Friday and a number of local sporting heroes were awarded for their commitment to sport.

The awards, which were organised by Argyll and Bute Council and sportscotland, payed tribute to all the unsung volunteers who give up their free time to help promote sport in their area.

The winners are as follows:

Active Schools Volunteer – Murdo MacLennan, Active Schools Isle of Mull
Youth Coach – Don McAllister, Lochnell Football Club
Community Coach – Duncan Aitken, Mid Argyll Rugby Club
Club of the Year – Bute Ladies Sports
Sporting Achievement of the Year – Callum Bell, Helensburgh Sailing Club
Service to Sport – Mamie Cattanach and Margaret McColl, Benderloch Badminton Club

The Council’s Policy Lead for Community and Culture, Councillor Robin Currie said: “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners. These people have gone the extra mile for sport in their local community and are doing their bit to get people of all ages involved in active and healthy lifestyles.

“Sport is not only beneficial physically but also mentally and these sports volunteers must be acknowledged for all their hard work and dedication.”
