We are drawing near to a time of year when we extend goodwill towards our fellow men and women. Each year the warmth of Argyll and Bute communities spills over and the magic of the season sweeps us along on a tide of celebration.
In the midst of our festivities with family and friends, we may wish to stop for a moment and consider others for whom the holiday season can be a difficult or lonely time. I send them warm wishes with the hope they may find comfort amidst the festivities.
This is the time of year when we often look back and reflect, and, in doing so, two words are prominent in my mind – appropriate to the season – Goodwill and Peace.
The uninhibited goodwill extended by our communities towards the families who have come to Bute and who will soon arrive in Campbeltown from Syria. The goodwill, too, of the Scottish people, and communities throughout the UK who are offering sanctuary and peace to those who have arrived on our shores from war torn countries.
As we close the door on the old year I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in Argyll and Bute a happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
