People across Argyll and Bute who have completed development in the past three years can enter the council’s third sustainable design awards.

Recognising, promoting and celebrating examples of exceptional design quality, the awards give developers the opportunity to have their work endorsed by planning professionals.

Policy Lead for Planning and Regulatory Services, Councillor David Kinniburgh, encouraged people to enter, saying: ‘’These awards give people a tremendous opportunity to have their work professionally endorsed by the council’s planning team.

‘’Our planning service works to support sustainable economic growth, making things happen and encouraging exceptional developments.

‘’These awards will celebrate great design and really raise awareness of what is exceptional. This is a chance to showcase the very best in sustainable design in Argyll and Bute.

‘’Open to anyone, from community groups to developers, the deadline for entries is Wednesday 30th September. To enter go to http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/sustainable-design-awards-2015 for guidance notes and an entry form. Alternatively you can call 01546 605518 and one of our helpful planning officers will be happy to assist.

‘’Shortlisting will take place in October, with site visits from the judging panel expected later that month and winners and honourable mentions set to be announced at an awards ceremony in January 2016.’’

There are four categories:

·         Small scale residential developments

·         Larger scale housing projects

·         Commercial/community/industrial (called non-residential) buildings

·         Refurbishments of existing buildings

The 2015 awards will consider completed projects that have a Building (Scotland) Act 2003 Completion Certificate dated between 1st January 2012 and 30th June 2015.

Previous awards have highlighted high quality developments which combine innovative design with superb environmental performance, and have included projects across the area, from small islands to large mainland towns.

The high quality of architecture is one of the reasons Argyll and Bute is a great place for people to live in, to work in and to visit and the council is celebrating the very best design projects the area has to offer.
