Hundreds of active young athletes will participate in Youth Games

Six hundred first and second year pupils from all ten of Argyll and Bute Council’s secondary schools will be taking part in sixteen sporting events across Oban on Monday 23 June.

The Argyll and Bute Secondary Schools Youth Games is the largest school sports event of the year, and will have a Commonwealth theme with each school selecting a commonwealth country to represent and making a flag to carry.

The council’s Active Schools organise and run the event and the council’s Policy Lead for Community and Culture, Councillor Robin Currie will perform the opening ceremony.

The Youth Games are sponsored by team kit specialists Purple Rock and supported by the Big Lottery Celebrate Fund which provides grants to communities across Scotland for arts, heritage, sports and local community celebrations of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The itinerary for the day is as follows:

1.10am  Opening Ceremony, Mossfield Stadium, Oban

11.45-2.45pm Sports Events

Girls and Boys Athletics – Mossfield Stadium

Girls and Boys Football – Oban High 3rd generation outdoor pitch

Girls and Boys Rugby – Oban High School grass pitch

Boys Shinty – Glen 2 pitch

Golf – Glencruitten Golf Club

Dance – Oban High dance studio

Hockey  - Park Primary School

Softball –Atlantis Leisure grass area

Girls, Boys and Mixed Swimming – Atlantis Leisure pool

Basketball – Oban High main sports hall

Badminton  - Atlantis Leisure main sports hall
