Argyll and Bute Council has re-affirmed its financial support for the Cowal Highland Gathering.

Lead Councillor for Community, Culture, the Customer and Communication Louise Glen-Lee said

‘While it is important for young people in Argyll and Bute to have every opportunity to take part in local events, historic boundary issues are a matter for the Gathering committee to resolve. The Gathering makes a significant contribution to the economic viability and sustainability of the Argyll and Bute community.’

Argyll and Bute Council support for the Gathering was £86k in 2011/12 and £93k in 2012/13 through direct grants and services in kind, and proposals to increase its support to £96.5k in financial year 2013/14 and £100k in financial year 2014/15 have been agreed, providing the agreed objectives have been met.
