A new, free national service called ‘Tell Us Once’ will be launched by Argyll and Bute Council on Monday 19 March.

In partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions, Tell Us Once makes it easier for people to tell central and local government services about a birth or a death. This means that you will only have to give details once instead of having to repeat the same information to a number of different agencies and departments.

When people register a birth or a death they usually also have to inform a wide range of other government services. This can sometimes be time consuming, difficult and stressful.   From council tax and blue badges to HM Revenue and Customs and the Electoral Registration Service, Tell Us Once means people can choose to provide information which the Registrar will pass securely to relevant service or external agencies.

If you want to use this optional service you can make an appointment with your local Registrar when you register a birth or death.

Head of Customer and Support Services Judy Orr said, “Tell Us Once gives people the chance to inform a number of agencies through just one conversation with their local registrar.  We realise that when people come into register a birth or death they are doing so often under very difficult circumstances.  I am delighted that we can go some way to making this process easier.”
