Progress is being made after flood strewn debris blocked the road and damaged three bridges on the B8035 South of Salen on Mull. It happened on 5 July and there are now some key dates for the work being done to the affected road and bridges.

As can be seen in the attached diagram Bridge 60 (Abhainn Na H-Uamha) will be open from Monday 23 July for access for site and local traffic only. There is still access to Ben More from Salen and limited road side parking.

Bridge 80 (An Gearna) will be open and available for use from Wednesday 15 August with a temporary surface and a 10 mile an hour speed limit.

A by-pass around Bridge 100 (Abhuinn Dhiseig) will also be open to traffic from Wednesday 15 August with a temporary surface and a 10 mile an hour speed limit. A new bridge and road surface will be built and finished by the middle of October and a separate contract will be awarded for this job.

There will also be culverts replaced at Gribun rocks where the road was blocked by debris.

Deputy Lead Councillor for Roads and Amenity Services, Robert G MacIntyre said, “There will be frequent updates on the situation on the B8035 to let people know how work is progressing and if there are any changes. The council’s roads team is working hard along with local contractors to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. I would like to thank them for their hard work and for the speedy progress being made.”
