Campbeltown Heritage Trail Group has announced the dates for their 2012 walking tours.  This year’s tours will take place every Wednesday in July and August, departing from the Aqualibrium at 2pm.

Now in their third year, the tours, having previously attracted over 200 participants, remain popular and provide locals and visitors alike with a fascinating insight into the area’s historic past. The tours are completely free of charge and will last approximately one hour.

In addition to the main tours, two architectural tours and a special Dalintober tour will also take place. The Architectural and Heritage Trail leaflets have proven so popular a new supply has now been produced and these are available from the Tourist Information Centre, THI Office and from local hotels and restaurants. A third leaflet titled `Gaelic in Kintyre’ has also been produced and will be available in early July.

John Semple, Argyll and Bute’s Lead Councillor for Environment, Energy, Development, Infrastructure and Tourism said, “The Campbeltown Heritage Tours are becoming a great magnet for tourists and local people and I’m pleased to see that they’re returning for a third year. I’d like to say a big thank you to the Campbeltown Heritage Trail Group, which is made up of volunteers and Campbeltown THI staff, for their continued commitment and enthusiasm in organising the trails since 2010.

“The trails form an important part of the Campbeltown Town Centre Regeneration Project and by providing such an interesting insight into our history, they help to ensure that our heritage is not lost.”
