TALENTED youngster Morgan Reid has been chosen as the winner of this year’s Argyll and Bute Council road safety calendar competition.
Morgan’s brightly coloured poster, which bears the message ‘Always play in a safe place’, was selected as the overall winner by a panel of judges.
Every year, the Road Safety Unit asks local school children to design posters, with the overall winner receiving a £50 voucher and the Road Safety Classroom Calendar Trophy for their school.
Six-year-old Morgan, a Primary 2 pupil from Castlehill Primary School, was thrilled, and a little surprised, to be this year’s winner.
Her picture features at the top of the calendar, which is being sent to every school and office in Argyll and Bute.
Councillor John Semple, Argyll and Bute Council's lead councillor for environment, development and infrastructure, said: “Road safety is an extremely serious subject which affects each and every one of us. This annual competition is a great way of getting young people to think about their behaviour on or near roads.
“Morgan’s picture really gets the message of playing in a safe place across, so it is perfect for displaying in every classroom.
“I’d like to congratulate all the category winners and entrants this year as the standard was particularly high. Over 1,300 entries were received from 46 of our schools which is an excellent response to such an important subject.”
The Road Safety Unit was grateful to receive sponsorship for this year’s prizes from Kintyre Crime Prevention Council.
