The A828 Connel Bridge is to close between 10pm and 6am on five consecutive nights to allow repairs to be carried out.

The announcement was made today by Scotland Transerv, which will carry out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The work will repair damage caused by an over-height vehicle, and will involve replacing a number of overhead cross beams and carrying out repairs to parts of the beams’ supporting structure.

Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for transport and infrastructure, Councillor Duncan MacIntyre, said: “It is very unfortunate that this work has become necessary. This is a major route, and the diversion is a extremely long one.

“I would urge drivers to plan their journeys so as not to coincide with the closures, and hope that the vast majority of them are able to do so.”

The road will be closed to all traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, between 10pm and 6am from Sunday, December 4 to Friday, December 9 to ensure the safety of the public and to allow the contractor unrestricted access to complete the works as quickly as possible.

Access for fire, police and ambulance vehicles on emergency duties will be provided at all times.

Motorists should allow extra time for their journeys and pay attention to any advisory signs that will be in place throughout the works. For real time journey planning information visit www.trafficscotland.org.
