Campbeltown will host its second official Santa Dash this year, with hordes of Santas expected to line the streets on Saturday 17th December to celebrate the festive season.

The event will see Santas of all ages getting into the Christmas spirit as they take part in a fun 3k dash through Campbeltown.

Poor weather meant last year’s event had to be postponed until January, but that didn’t dampen the Santas’ spirits and a large number still participated. Organisers hope that this year can be even bigger and better.

The event is being run in partnership by Argyll and Bute Council’s Active Schools Team, Jog Scotland, Campbeltown Running Club, The Campbeltown Town Centre Regeneration Project and Aqualibrium.

Councillor Donnie MacMillan, chair of the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area committee, said: “This is a great event in the Campbeltown calendar, and I’m sure the people of Kintyre will show their usual enthusiasm and support.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity for people to get into the spirit of Christmas whilst having fun and keeping fit.”

Town Centre Manager, Aileen MacLennan, said: “The event is family-friendly and is open to all ages and abilities. Whether you want to come along with the kids or on your own, the emphasis on the day is all about enjoying yourself and taking part in some festive fun. People can even walk the route if they choose.

“I would point out, however, that places are on a first come, first served basis so get your entry form in as soon as possible.”

The price is £7 for adults and £5 for children under 16. This includes a Santa suit and a medal. The price for pre-school children is £2.50 and includes a Santa hat and a medal. Everyone who takes part will also be rewarded with some well-deserved tea and mince pies.

Application forms are available from Aqualibrium and the deadline for entries is Friday December 9 2011.

Santa suits will then be available for collection from Aqualibrium between 10am and 12noon on Saturday December 10. For further information contact Fiona Irwin on 01586 551212.
