The festive season is upon us again, that special time of peace, love and celebration.

I have mixed emotions about my Christmas message this year as it is my last as Provost of Argyll and Bute Council.  It has been my privilege to talk to you as Convener, and now, Provost since 2001.  Over these ten years we have seen many changes to the way we live our lives.  Technology has made it easier to talk to friends and relatives but Christmas still holds it’s magic.

For children with their eyes sparkling waiting for Santa Claus and for those of us a bit older it is a time to look back on the old year at what has gone before as well as looking forward to the new year that lies ahead of us.

As always I’d like to thank the volunteers who work so tirelessly over this time to improve the quality of live for others – they really are our unsung heroes.

It has been an honour speaking to you every Christmastime and I would like to sign off by wishing you all the patience to treasure our memories and live every minute of the present to the full.

May you all enjoy a joyous, peaceful and prosperous 2012.

Councillor William Petrie OBE JP DL
