The Christmas season is nearly upon us and this year Argyll and Bute Council has some more unusual gift ideas for those difficult to buy for people in the shape of coaching or residential football courses!

Next year is a special year for sport with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we are already getting into the spirit of team challenge and personal achievement.

The council’s Coaching Champions weekend will take place in Oban over the weekend of 4 – 5 February and covers sports from swimming to athletics and canoeing to volleyball.  This year’s programme offers 56 courses so there is bound to be something for everyone.  Whether you are looking to develop skills in a particular sport, want to learn more about sports coaching or try something new we have the right combination in this year’s Coaching Champions.

And if you’ve got a budding Beckham in your family the council has announced the dates for the 2012 football residential course will be between 23-27 July.  This course is always incredibly popular and is an excellent way for young people to live and breathe football for a whole week.  Full details of the football residential course including an application form can be found on the council’s website at www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/football

Spokesperson for the third sector and communities Councillor Rory Colville said, “Next year is an exciting year for sport.  Coaching champions offers 56 courses including sports that reflect our rural and island environment.  So whatever sport it is you’re interested in we can give you the tools to make sure you can become the best you can be.  I am also delighted that the council is once again running its residential football course.  We have a strong tradition of footballers in Argyll and Bute and this week long course gives young people the opportunity to totally immerse themselves in football.
