A number of local businesses in Campbeltown are decorating their windows for the second annual Christmas Window Competition.

A total of 49 businesses have signed up to take part in the event and leaflets have been produced which will enable people to carry out their own tour of the displays.

Each leaflet contains a voting slip to give people the opportunity to vote for their favourite.

The best display will then receive £100 which has been donated by the South Kintyre Area Development Group.

Councillor Donnie MacMillan, chair of the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area committee, said: “The Christmas Window Competition is proving to be a great success yet again, and I’m delighted by the number of people who have signed up to take part.

“This type of event creates a real sense of community pride and wellbeing whilst also promoting local businesses and getting people into the festive spirit.”

Argyll and Bute Council’s Town Centre Manager for Campbeltown, Aileen MacLennan, who organised the event, said: “Picking up a leaflet to carry out a tour of the displays will give people the chance to have a fun-filled day out with the whole family looking at the windows whilst even doing some of their Christmas shopping at the same time.

“I really hope that people visit Campbeltown to see our stunning displays. So much effort has been put in by everyone taking part and I would urge as many people as possible to get voting for their favourite.”

The competition began on Thursday November 24 and the deadline for votes is 12 noon on Tuesday December 20.

Leaflets can be picked up from participating businesses.
