FREEDOM OF ARGYLL AND BUTE Under Section 206 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 the Council will be asked to pass a resolution to admit Provost William Petrie OBE JP DL as an Honorary Freeman of Argyll and Bute in recognition of his meritorious service to the community, his work in the promotion of tourism in Scotland and his long and eminent service rendered to Local Government in Scotland. Minutes: The Council unanimously resolved in terms of Section 206 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, to admit as Honorary Freeman of Argyll and Bute, Provost William Petrie OBE JP DL in recognition of his meritorious service to the community, his work in the promotion of tourism in Scotland and his long and eminent service rendered to Local Government in Scotland. In fulfilment of that resolution, the Council now granted the Freedom of Argyll and Bute which was conveyed in the following terms – On the twenty sixth day of April two thousand and twelve,
the Leader and Councillors of Argyll and Bute Council, together assembled
having on the sixteenth day of February
two thousand and twelve unanimously so resolved, did this day admit as
an Honorary Freeman of Argyll and Bute Provost William Petrie OBE JP DL in recognition of his meritorious service to the community,
his work in the promotion of tourism in Scotland and his long and eminent
service rendered to Local Government in Scotland as a Councillor from 1967, and
particularly as; Chairman, Helensburgh District Council 1970-1975 Vice Convener, Dunbartonshire County Council 1971-1973 Member, Strathclyde Regional Council 1974-1996 Provost, Dumbarton District Council 1977-1980 and 1988-1991 Vice Convener, Argyll and Bute Council 1997-2001 Convener/Provost, Argyll and Bute Council 2001-2012 Justice of the Peace 1969-date Deputy Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire 1990-date Order of the British Empire 1990-date Sealed with the common seal of Argyll and Bute Council and
extracted from the records of the said Council. Provost Petrie, having accepted the Scroll conveying the freedom grant, the Depute Provost, on behalf of the Council, granted permission for Provost Petrie to exercise the freedom. |
