Oban, Lorn and the Isles Community Planning Group - 11th October 2017 PDF 143 KB Minutes: The minute of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Community Planning Group meeting of 11th October 2017 was approved as a correct record. Councillor Robertson confirmed that the defibrillator donated to the Town of Oban has now been installed at Station Square. She confirmed that there are now 2 defibrillators available in the Oban area. The Chair confirmed that Ardchattan now has two defibrillators installed and thanked ACHA for all their help with the installation. She advised that Ardchattan Community Council are now in the process of getting sponsorship and funding for another. |

Issues – feedback from Sybil Johnson, Argyll and Bute Council on the Working
Group on road transport issues in Oban, Lorn and the
Isles. Minutes: The Community Planning Officer gave an update following the last Oban, Lorn and the Isles Community Planning Group where the Action Plan was signed off and the Group agreed to focus on road transport and road safety. Discussion took place around the A85 between Oban – Connel and the number of fatalities which have happened in the last year. Adam McKenzie confirmed that there has been a downward trend in fatalities in Argyll and Bute as a whole, in particular on the A85 with motorcyclists. He advised they have held Awareness Days in Inveraray for motorcyclists and there has been 6 people less killed than last year with an average of being down 50%. He confirmed Argyll and Bute are doing very well due to the joined up multi-agency thinking and media support. Discussion took place around the response time for all agencies to get to an accident, how long it takes for accident investigation and how things could be improved. The Group then heard from Sybil Johnson, Senior Planning and Strategies Officer who provided information on the actions contained within the development plan. It was noted that the key issues raised in the OLI area related to traffic management and parking. Discussion took place on the road safety plans in place by Transport Scotland and the investigations that are currently ongoing. The Group also noted that there needed to be further work in terms of alternative road access when the roads were closed because of road traffic accidents and the importance of communication from Traffic Scotland and other partners. |

North Argyll Voluntary Cars and Appin Community Transport update on the work of these projects Minutes: The Group heard a presentation from Appin Community Development Trust on the Appin Community Transport Scheme and from Caroline Gillanders on the transport model operating across North Argyll. Discussion took place on the rationale, business plan and fundraising issues which these groups are dealing with. Decision The Group noted the information provided and agreed that they provided good background information for the model to be developed for Oban. Update from Visit Scotland Minutes: The Group gave consideration to an information strategy update report from the Regional Director of Visit Scotland. The report detailed the background to the closures of the Tourist Information Centres across Argyll and Bute and provided figures in relation to those offices earmarked for closure. It also noted that there would be regional hubs created in Islay, Mull, Oban and Rothesay. Decision The Group noted the information provided. PARTNERS UPDATE Opportunity for Verbal updates by Community Planning Partners Minutes: Police Scotland Mark Stephen advised on the local Transport Group which provides an early intervention drivers scheme for young people aged between 17-25 years old. The scheme encourages young people to be more aware of their driving styles and teaches them to improve their driving experience. It was noted that the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers are due to have their passing out ceremony in March. It was also noted that one person has been charged in relation to the theft at the BP Petrol Station in Oban. Locality Manager Phil Cummins introduced himself as the new Locality Manager for OLI, having taken up post in November. He advised on the Lynn of Lorn Care Home Inspection and the national new GP contract. |
