The Council gave consideration to a report proposing the rationalisation of the library location on Tiree in a manner which created the potential to create residential worker accommodation immediately adjacent to the school in an operationally efficient location for the Education Service.
Decision
The Council –
1. approved
an allocation of £40,000 from the Strategic Housing Fund to upgrade space at
Tiree School for a new permanent library;
2. approved an allocation of £15,000 from the Strategic Housing Fund for design works to progress with a proposal to convert the existing library building back into residential use for worker accommodation;
3. approved
for valuation work and due diligence to be carried out to develop a proposal to
dispose of the existing schoolhouse at Balemartine
for worker accommodation that is no longer fit for purpose; and
4. noted that updates on these items will be brought back to future relevant Committees for Member information and approval.
