The Council gave consideration to a report seeking approval for an increase in mileage reimbursement rates paid to Council Members and casual car users’ from 45p to 55p per mile in line with the revised HMRC Approved Mileage Allowance Payment rate announced on 21 May 2026 and backdated nationally to 6 April 2026.

Decision

The Council –

1.     approved the increase in the mileage reimbursement rate for Council Members and casual car users from 45p per mile to 55p per mile from 6 April 2026 in line with the revised HMRC Approved Mileage Allowance Payment announced on 21 May 2026; and

2.     noted that officers were engaging with the supplier of the Council’s HR and Payroll System to assess the most timeous and practical approach to apply the new rate for mileage claims already processed for the period from 6 April 2026 onwards.
