It will be possible for couples wishing to enter into a mixed (opposite) sex civil partnership in Scotland to submit notice of intention to enter their civil partnership from Tuesday June 1, 2021 onwards.

A notice period of 28 clear days is required, which means that the first mixed sex civil partnerships could take place on or after Wednesday June 30, 2021.

The Scottish Government is preparing regulations which will allow married couples to change their marriage to a civil partnership if they so wish.  As soon as a firm timetable for the implementation of these regulations is available we will update these details.

If a couple has questions about changing their marriage to a civil partnership, they should contact the Scottish Government at cpreview@gov.scot.
