Mafeking Place

Work complete at Mafeking Place

This was an additional priority building completed via Campbeltown CARS.  It is another good example of private owners working together to plan and carry out badly needed repairs to a tenement property.  The Mafeking Place Owners Association was formed in November 2017 involving the owners of the 10 flats and 2 shops and all owners agreed to work together to maintain and repair the property.  For the first few years this was limited to annual gutter clearing and emergency works to prevent further deterioration of the property.

In 2019 it became apparent that significant funding was available from Argyll and Bute Council’s Campbeltown CARS and Private Sector Housing Grant budgets.  Within a month owners raised £59,000 to contribute to the total project of £318,000 and work started in August 2019.   Extensive repairs were carried out to the external fabric of the building including; lead works, reslating; chimney repairs; stone repairs; replacement rainwater goods; rot repairs and internal timber repairs within 4 flats.  in addition to this the roof light in the common stairwell was repaired removing the risk to public safety.

Work was completed in March 2020.
