Work is underway at Close 1 Mafeking Place in what is the final tenement repair project to be delivered via Campbeltown Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) Round 6. To date scaffold has been installed on Burnbank Street and Longrow. The Union Street elevation requires a formal Road Closure (TRO) so this will not be installed until next week.
The £305,000 project will see extensive repairs to the exterior of the building including; lead works, associated slated roof works, chimney repairs, stone works, rainwater goods, associated timber repairs and rot works and the repair of the rooflight that covers the common stairwell.
The building includes 10 flats and 2 ground floor businesses and for the past few years owners have been carrying our urgent repairs and maintenance to safeguard the property. They formed an Owners Association to enable them to work together to enable major repairs to be carried out.
Owners have contributed £59,000 with grants administered by Argyll and Bute Council meeting the remainder of the costs. This includes £96,780 in Private Sector Housing Grant and £149,400 from Campbeltown CARS.
