Customers just love Georgia's new business

After moving near to Dunoon to get away from the London rat race, Georgia Love found herself missing her media job and so she began working as a proof reader for her local paper.

Later, after a time as both reporter and deputy editor of the Dunoon Observer, Georgia made the switch to a Glasgow magazine where she was editor for six years. Now, with support from Argyll and Bute Council’s Business Gateway, she has set up her own copy writing, website content and proof reading business, Love:Words.

Georgia said: “I wanted a quieter life after working in the centre of London, but while I loved living in Argyll I realised I missed working in a vibrant industry. After seven years of working for a newspaper then magazine, I decided to pull my various abilities and experience together to offer a service for small businesses. I had begun editing and proof reading a Dutch company’s sales catalogues and other marketing material on a freelance basis, and it occurred to me I could build on that.

“So far, I’m pleased with the response I’ve had. I work with a mix of clients, from an author, to Dunoon Burgh Hall, to a physical therapist. Doing a variety of work including producing newsletters and leaflets, means I can understand and carry out each client’s individual requirements.”

Using tools such as Facebook and by creating her own website, Georgia hopes to attract clients not only locally, but from all over the world.

She added: “Business Gateway’s support covered all the logistics of offering this particular service in the local area and the possibilities of a marketplace for it. Alongside my adviser, we also covered where I wanted the business to go. Just the knowledge that they are there is a great help, and the various courses on offer are of very real assistance to anyone starting up.”

Donald Melville, Business Adviser, Business Gateway said: “Georgia has taken advantage of our one-to-one advice on areas including social media and creating a website. We believe Love:Words is the perfect example of a company that can truly benefit from being online, and our assistance and support continues to remain focused on helping Georgia widen her customer base.”
