Heads of Education Posts

HEAD OF EDUCATION (LEARNING AND TEACHING) X1

HEAD OF EDUCATION (LIFELONG LEARNING AND SUPPORT) X1

Thank you for your interest in our soon to be appointed Heads of Education posts at Argyll and Bute Council.

Argyll and Bute is a place like no other in Scotland - it is an area of outstanding beauty, with mountains, sea lochs, 23 inhabited islands, six main towns and more than 3,000 miles of coastline. It is one of the largest and most sparsely populated local authority areas in Scotland and has a population of 88,050 scattered across an area of nearly 2,700 square miles. It stretches from Helensburgh in the East, part of the Glasgow commuter belt, to the remote island of Tiree in the west and from the Mull of Kintyre in the south to the growing town of Oban in the north.  This mix of urban communities, remote rural villages and a significant island population makes Argyll and Bute the most diverse local authority area anywhere in the UK, bringing a wealth of culture as well as challenges to delivering services.

Our Local Outcome Improvement Plan sets out the key objective to build a prosperous economy and a growing population. The Council has an important role to carry out to deliver on this along with our partners. Our children are our future and we are committed to ensuring that they have the best possible start. This is central to the posts of Head of Education.

The Council’s ambitious Education Strategy ‘Our Children, Their Future’ is in place to guide the development of education services through a period of unprecedented opportunity and change.

Across our diverse area, in Argyll and Bute we have 4,390 in 10 secondary schools and 5,857 in 77 Primary schools, 6 of which include Gaelic Units. We also have one special school which has 22 pupils. We also have 51 pre-school units within our primary schools and 2 standalone nurseries.  We provide a range of adult learning and youth services. The Education service employs 816 FTE teaching staff and 827 non-teaching staff.

We face challenges in the future, but with a strong team in place I am confident that we can meet those challenges and continue to transform and deliver excellent services for the people of Argyll and Bute.
