This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader and Education professional who is ready to take on an important role as one of two Heads of Education, reporting to the Executive Director with responsibility for the Service.

Thank you for your interest in the Head of Education – Learning and Teaching post at Argyll and Bute Council. This is a challenging, yet exciting time for our Council. As we move into the next stage of our Covid recovery, Education Services are at the heart of our communities and the lives of our young people.  Our new Head of Service will play an essential role in ensuring that ongoing Education recovery continues apace and delivers on our own and Scottish Government expectations.  We are very proud of our team’s hard work in continuing services during the Covid19 pandemic and look forward to continuing with this excellent level of service as recovery continues. 

Working closely with the Head of Education – Lifelong Learning and Support, you will be a core member of the Education Management Team, and of the Executive Director’s Departmental Management Team, contributing to the strategic decision making of the Council regarding all matters relating to Education and wider children and young people matters. You will be a regular attendee at the Community Services Committee, authoring and presenting papers and will develop a close working relationship with both the Executive Director and the Policy Lead for Education.

Salary £79,541 (pay award pending)

Assessment Process

The selection process will take place remotely and in Lochgilphead, and will take the form of:

  • Online psychometric assessments and feedback
  • Assessment Centre activities to assess leadership and decision making
  • Panel Interview with Chief Executive, Executive Director and elected members

Applicants selected for interview will be provided with a detailed timetable including locations and other relevant information.

Any expenses reasonably incurred by candidates will be reimbursed. Overnight accommodation, if required, will be arranged by the Council.
