A House in Multiple Occupation is a property rented out by at least 3 (unrelated) people who share facilities such as the bathroom or toilet and kitchen. It can also be known as a house share. Whilst Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) assist in providing necessary accommodation options they can also potentially give rise to issues in communities that are cross cutting in nature. This means they require an integrated approach by Environmental Health, Building Standards and Planning. The aim of the Technical Note is to provide clarity and certainty on what issues will be considered when assessing applications for HMO licences and planning permission.
We are looking for your views on the draft Technical Note 3 : Houses in Multiple Occupation before it becomes part of our non-statutory planning guidance, which supports the Development Plan.
The consultation is open for a 4-week period until 16th February 2019.
