The Ardrishaig community council nominated council roadsweeper Roy Nelson to flick the switch in this year’s Christmas lights switch on, which took place in Ardrishaig on Friday night

Roy has worked for Argyll and Bute Council for 8 years, diligently patrolling the streets of Ardrishaig and keeping them clean and tidy.

A regular sight on the streets of Ardrishaig, Roy is quiet and well respected, both among his peers working out of the council depot in Lochgilphead, as well as members of the Ardrishaig community.

When the community council decided that Roy was their man, they got in touch with the Depute Provost, Councillor Dougie Philand

Councillor Philand was able to provide Roy’s contact details, the community council approached Roy and he was delighted to say yes.

Councillor Philand said, ‘’Roy is a stand-up guy and a great choice by the community council to switch on the lights this year. The Christmas lights switch on is always a big event and it was great to see so many people turning out, despite the poor weather.’’
