Licensing Standards Special Bulletin - 24th March 2017

Large Scale Thefts of Alcohol in Argyll and Bute

This is a special bulletin for all licensed premises, but in particular off sales premises.

Police Scotland has made us aware of high value thefts of alcohol form off sales premises in Helensburgh, Inveraray, Lochgilphead and Tarbert, where gangs have entered premises and stolen large quantities of alcohol from shelving/display areas.

In one such incident they were able to steal alcohol to a value of £1500.00.

All licensees and shop staff should be vigilant in  monitoring their alcohol stock/displays, and report anything suspicious to the police.

Police Scotland can provide advice on retail security and can be contacted at your local police office or by dialling the non-emergency 101 telephone number.

In addition, this link takes you to Retailers Against Crime.  Founded in 1997, Retailers Against Crime is a national, not for profit crime partnership. It helps detect and deter crime, including acts of violence by sharing information on local and travelling offenders to members in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North West of England.  Licensees may wish to consider becoming a member.

That’s it for now
