Argyll and Bute Council has commissioned TGP Landscape Architects to design a new public realm for Gibraltar Street, Oban (the pedestrian link between the town centre and Tesco).
An initial public consultation took place on the 9th June 2022 on Gibraltar Street, to gather views on its current use and to present initial design options.
Since the initial consultation, redevelopment will now only be carried out within the council maintained boundary. The change to the site has required TGP Landscape Architects to develop more complex design solutions which are considerably different to the original proposals we initially presented due to the difficulties of the site in regard to gradients and ensuring we meet accessibility standards. We invite you to review the new options and provide any comments you have by clicking on the link below.
The consultation will be open until 23 November 2022 and should take around 10 minutes to complete.
We are also hosting a consultation event on Tuesday 22 November 2022 on site of Gibraltar Street. TGP Landscape Architects and Council officers will be there from 11 am – 3pm and we invite you to come and give us your views on the new design concepts.
The vision behind the public realm improvement is to provide a bright, contemporary gateway into the town centre, improve access and encouraging people to shop local. TGP Landscape Architects have taken on-board comments from the initial consultation to ensure Gibraltar Street is accessible friendly, has increased planting/greenspace and seating, and the space is brightened with improved lighting.
