What can you do online?
To log in to our online library service, you will need your library membership number (on your library membership card) and your PIN number. If you have forgotten or lost either of these, please contact us, and we will send them out to you. Once you are logged in, you can access a variety of services:
Search the online catalogues for books or items you may like to borrow -
You can search the full catalogue, children's catalogue, audio books, large print, eBooks, and open learning materials. You can search by author, title or subject to find what you are looking for.
Reserve books -
By searching the online catalogues, you can select books or items you would like to borrow, and reserve these online. Just select the items you would like by clicking in the checkbox at the side of the item, and use the green "Reserve selections" or "Place reservation" button at the top or bottom of the screen. You will then fill in a form to tell us where you would like to collect the items from, and we will reserve them for you. You can find further help on reserving items in our FAQS on placing a reservation.
Renew books or items you have on loan -
When you are logged in to the online library system, you can renew books or items that you have on loan by going into the My Library link, selecting "Current loans", and either check the items you would like to renew, or choose "Renew all" to renew all of your current loans. You will then be shown a new due date for each of your loans, if the renewal has been successful. You can find further help on renewing items in our FAQS on renewing loans.
Add reviews -
It's always nice to know what other people have thought of a book, and you may like to pass on your thoughts on what you have been reading to others. You can add reviews when you are logged in to the online library system by finding the item you would like to review, click on the link to "Add your review" then give it a rating of 1 to 10, and add your comments. Other online library users will then be able to see your review when they view that item online. You can get further help on reviewing items in our FAQs on adding reviews.
Set up a profile for alerts -
You can set up a profile where you select the types of material you are interested in, and get alerts by email when items matching your selections are available, with a link to the selections. You can get further help on setting up a profile for alerts on our FAQs on alert profiles.
Access online reference collections -
Library members can access a wealth of information in our online reference collections. You can dip into Britannica online, Know UK, CANS (online law resource), Oxford Dictionary, Grove Music and Grove Art online, and more. You can find out more about what is available and how to access it on our Online reference collections page.
