May 2012 - All work has now been completed. The Grand Re-Opening took place on Saturday 12 May 2012.
March 2012 – Construction phase due for completion 30 April 2012. Bedrooms and corridors currently receiving final decoration, public bar fit out and decoration is almost complete, restaurant fit out is 70% complete. Kitchen fit out is underway, final commissioning and testing of all service installations due to commence next week. Decoration to remaining external render almost complete. Public realm improvements are progressing as programmed and are scheduled for completion 1st week in April.
Grand opening will take place on Saturday 12th May 2012.
January 2012 - Work is progressing well as follows;
Building fabric - Roof works, new extension, new bay windows and windows completed. Stone repairs and restoration of existing and new stone work to extension, external mastic works and decoration are all complete. New cast iron gutters installed. Scaffolding dismantled.
Internal fit out - New stair and lift shaft installed, new ground floors installed, bedrooms to all floor have been formed and plasterboarded along with electrics and plumbing, ames taping well underway, doors skirtings, tiling, sanitary ware, light fittings underway, decoration to follow. Ground floor bars and restaurant are currently being plasterboarded along with the associated electrics, plumbing and ventilation systems.
August 2011 – Work is progressing well as follows; Scaffold erected, roof stripped and roof rot repairs completed, new timber frame nearing completion along with the roof over, new windows being installed, demolitions complete, structural alterations are nearing completion, new underground drainage complete, ground level new concrete floor slab in progress, new stair core in progress, new lift shaft in progress, and rot treatments to all the internal areas complete.
March 2011 - Work has commenced.
June 2010 - THI funding of £30,000 has been awarded towards the cost of replacement rainwater goods.
Notes - The C listed Royal Hotel occupies a highly prominent waterfront location in the heart of Campbeltown Conservation Area. The hotel closed several years ago and the condition of the building is steadily deteriorating.
The owners, Kintyre Development Company (KDC) plan to completely restore the hotel, creating 23 four-star rooms, a pub and a seafood restaurant with total project costs of over £2.8 million. KDC is a subsidiary of Southworth International Holdings Ltd, a US based golf and leisure developer which currently owns the new Machrihanish Dunes golf course and the Ugadale Golf Cottages. KDC are also planning to restore The Ugadale Hotel at Machrihanish.
