September 2011 - all external works now complete.
July 2011 – all existing paint has been removed from the right hand side shopfront. Work has commenced on the left hand side.
June 2011 – several methods of paint removal have been tested including a specialist chemical. To date none have been successful. Further test samples are due to be carried out. During the removal of paint some additional works have been identified including the requirement to replace the lintol and repair the lime render to right hand door. Arrangements are being made to carry out these works.
May 2011 – the majority of the work has now been completed. Further consideration is now being given to the re-painting of ground floor. A specialist paint manufacturer has been consulted and it has been confirmed that there are as many as 13 layers of old paint on the right hand side shopfront.
Campbeltown THI and Argyll and Bute Council’s Private Sector Housing Grant Section are working in partnership with the property owners (five different owners) to completely refurbish this ‘B’ listed tenement. The work is all being carried out by local contractors and includes; total re-roofing using most of the original slates, render repairs, redecoration of entire front elevation, refurbishment of sash and case windows, replacement rainwater goods, replacement ground floor doors and windows. Work is already underway at the rear elevation with the scaffold due to be erected at the front elevation early in 2011.
Total project costs are £89,000.
Total grant offered is £71,000, and includes £35,000 of Private Sector Housing Grant funding.
