Decorative images on a slate title adhered to a black support board, with mixed media applied to the surface, coloured pva, silica and coloured paper. A pontiflex is a man on the highest council of priests in Ancient Rome.

About the artist

Charles Mitchell, also known as Chuck Mitchell (1939-1966), studied printed textiles and lectured at Glasgow School of Art. He worked in a variety of media, and his work often had a fantastic, highly imaginative element. He was a protege of Robert Stewart and exhibited in Scotland and across the UK.
