About the artist
Dame Elizabeth Violet Blackadder OBE RA RSA RSW (born Falkirk, 1931) studied at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art. Blackadder is a painter and printmaker and the first woman to be elected to both the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy. She taught at Edinburgh College of Art until her retirement in 1986. She works in a variety of media including oil paint, watercolour, drawing and printmaking.
