About the artist
Sir William George Gillies CBE RSA RSW RA PRSW (born Haddingon, 1898 1973) studied and taught at Edinburgh College of Art. Gillies is a renowned Scottish landscape and still life painter. He developed a direct expressionist style, in response to the Scottish landscape.
