About the artist
John McNairn (born Hawick, 1910-2009) studied at Edinburgh College of Art. He travelled to Paris following graduation, and was particularly influenced by the Surrealists. This influence can be seen in the unsettling emptiness and a slightly unnatural perspective in his work.
