About the artist

Angus Neil (born Kilbarchan, 1924) studied at Glasgow School of Art. After serving in World War II, he enrolled in Hospitalfield School of Art, where he met Joan Eardley, who became his close friend. Eardley had a profound impact on Angus, and the pair worked together to depict the lives of children in the slums of Glasgow in the 1950s and 1960s.
