Coastal View

The artist uses the tonal variation of colour to good effect in this print of a coastal landscape. He uses a combination of both textural and decorative marks alongside broad areas of colour in his work to create striking images.

John Reginald Brunsdon (born Cheltenham, 1933-2014) studied at Cheltenham College of Art and the Royal College of Art. He was a founder member of the Printmakers Council. He is known for his meticulous skill and understanding of the etching process. In his etchings he uses both textural and decorative marks alongside broad areas of colour often giving his work a timeless quality. The etching medium combines the linear quality of a drawing with the transparent colour of a watercolour.
