Student entrepreneur has success wrapped up
A retail marketing student has set up her own online fashion shop selling scarves from all over the world.
Marina MacLeod, from Helensburgh, is in her third year at Glasgow Caledonian University and is currently spending a semester abroad at Iowa State University.
With support from Argyll and Bute Council’s Business Gateway, the fashion lover established her company, Wrapped in Style, and has successfully used social media to promote her products.
Marina sources scarves and headbands from quality wholesalers and sells them at her online store on Facebook to customers from across the UK.
She said: “Social media has played a huge role in the success of Wrapped in Style. I have primarily used Facebook to spread the word about my products and engage with customers, which has kept my overheads low. Business Gateway was informative and encouraging with lots of advice and help on topics that directly affected my business. The advice I received on online selling cemented my belief that I should take that path, as well as allowed me to gain essential skills.”
Marina is hoping to expand the business once she finishes studying and is keen to develop her own range of scarves.
Marina added: “I’m really enjoying running the business and I have ideas for the future which I’m excited about. I have two young nieces and the scarves and headbands are really popular with them and their friends, which is really fun to see. I’m looking forward to seeing how I can develop Wrapped in Style.”
